Day 1 - Skyscraper Faith

God bless you today. I am Pastor Sherri Morris from Soldotna, Alaska, and this is my brother David joining me. Hello.

We want to sincerely welcome you today to this daily devotional called Today's a Good Day to Have a Good Day, and we're going to take you through the Bible, through God's sacred holy word, and this is going to be an incredible time. We're going to take you through the Bible 365 days.

You're going to join us, and we are going to grow deep in God's word. Amen. What an exciting time to be alive. Amen.

And what an exciting way to go through your Bible. If you've not done this before, we use this on a year-to-year basis. I love it personally.

It's called the One Year Bible Program. It takes you through an Old Testament, a New Testament, a Psalms, and a Proverbs each and every day. And the great thing about this, Pastor Sherri is going to break down the Psalm of the day for you, and I'm going to be breaking down the Proverbs each and every day, and we're going to be using this year,

Perry Stone's Devotional Bible, which is unbelievable with commentary, so we're going to be able to go through the commentary with you on that.

So this is how it's going to work. I'm going to give you your Old Testament chapter and verse to read,

the New Testament chapter and verse to read, and the Psalms and Proverbs. And before you know it, you'll be through the Word of God, and He's going to change your life in ways that you never knew were possible.

So thank you for joining us, and here we go. We're going to be starting in Genesis chapter 1, verses 1 through chapter 2 verse 25,

and in your New Testament, starting in Matthew chapter 1 verse 1 through chapter 2 verse 12,

and today, Pastor is going to be taking you into Psalms chapter 1 verses 1 through 6.

I wanted to also explain to you that the book of Psalm is called in Hebrew, tehelium, something like that, a word for praises.

So because the majority of the Psalms are series of songs and prayers given praise to God for His mighty works, amen, in Israel and in the lives of His people, especially David. Now the book consists of 150 poems that were originally set to the music of a liar, liar, I think that's how you say it, it's like a harp or a harp. The Psalms have been given in different categories, including hymns, lament or complaint Psalms, royal Psalms, thanksgiving Psalms, wisdom Psalms, and general Psalms of worship and praise.

Seventy-three Psalms bear David's name, and another 12 are credited to Asaph.

Other writers include Heman, Ethan, Moses, Solomon, and sons of Korah, Asaph was David's music director prior to the time of the Ark of the Covenant. He lived from the time of David's reign through Solomon's years on the throne and into Rahoboam's reign.

34 of the 150 Psalms have a superscription or title that in the Hebrew text appears in the first verse. So we're going to start out with Psalm chapter 1, and there's commentary throughout this so it's going to be really good. I'm going to read here in the New American Standard,

the Bible says in Psalm chapter 1, "Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night." Amen.

"He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.

And whatever he does, he prospers." I like that. "The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff, which the wind blows away. Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous, for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish." So we're going to go back to Psalm chapter 1, and we're going to go over the commentary in that chapter.

The book of Psalms begins with the word "blessed," which comes from the Hebrew word "eshir,"

meaning to be happy.

We would say today, "Happy is the man."

Notice the three positions of a man mentioned in Psalm 1. He walks, he stands, and he sits.

A good man refuses to walk in the vice of sinners,

will not stand or linger continually in the presence of sinners, and will not sit in the seat of fellowship of the scornful. And those are the ones, those who mock religion and faith.

In the New Testament, believers are to walk by faith. Say, "Walk by faith." Just say it. I'm going to walk by faith. Stand in warfare. You're going to stand in warfare and sit in heavenly places with Christ. Hallelujah. Okay, we're going to go to the second verse, but his delight is in the law of the Lord.

This is, "The successful believer will meditate day and night on the law of God, just as main prayers were once offered in the morning and evening at the temple during Bible times.

Modern day believers," modern day believers, that's you and I, "must meditate upon God's word," listen to this, "in the beginning and conclusion of the day." I know there was a great man of God that said this not too long ago. It was listening to him preach, and he said, "No Bible, no breakfast."

Right? You got to meditate on the law of the Lord. The Hebrew word for meditate is haga, and it means to mutter in a low voice, repeating what is heard or read. You can also find those scriptures that go along with that same meaning in Joshua chapter 1, verse 8, and also in Psalm 77, verse 12, and as well, Proverbs 15, verse 28.

Okay, we're going to go on to verse 3 of your Psalms.

The word of God produces success in life by bearing spiritual fruit, spiritual fruit, like a tree planted, David, and nourished continually near a river of water.

This is so good. The continual flow of water prevents drought and famine, making the leaves and the fruit produce their proper season.

The constant flow of God's word. Listen to this. Think about a river. Think about it. You're being like a tree planted by the waters, by the river. You're a tree planted there, and you're going to produce fruit because of the constant flow of God's word in your mind and spirit.

This will water or refresh the spirit, and the fruit of the spirit will manifest in your life. Now, you can go to Galatians chapter 5, verses 22 and 23 to go into seeing what the fruit of the spirit is. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness. It's so good. You need to go into that. But this is letting you know that if you're in the Word and you're meditating on it every day,

you are going to display the fruit of the spirit. That's right. Amen? Amen. So now we're going to go into the last four, verses 4 through 6, where it says, "The wicked are not so. They're like the chaff that wins." It says, the Bible says in the commentary here, "The unrighteous are said to be like chaff, worthless material that covers seeds."

This just is amazing to me.

I was thinking about this a little bit earlier, Dave.

The Bible says that to burn up the chaff,

bring forth the gold.

So the chaff covers up the seeds. To me, it would cover up the seeds of God, the Word, that sin.

So note that the Lord separates the wheat from the tares and separates the good grain from the chaff at His threshing floor. The chaff will be burned with unquenchable fire. You can go into Matthew chapter 3, verse 12, for extra,

that story about burning up the chaff. So it'll be really good.

That was a lot.

Amen. Pastor, that was wonderful.

It was good.

I love how Proverbs starts.

So I'm going to also go through the commentary first, Perry Stone's commentary,

and then I will take you through verses 1 through 6.

So he says, "The original purpose of these Proverbs was to give instruction to young men,

learning from others' mistakes.

It's much easier than continually making mistakes because of lack of wisdom and understanding.

Solomon wanted his son to learn from his successes and from mistakes."

So let's go into Proverbs chapter 1, verses 1 through 6.

These are the Proverbs of Solomon, David's son, king of Israel. Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline to help them understand the insights of the wise.

Their purpose is to teach people to live a disciplined and successful life,

to help them do what is right, just, and fair.

These Proverbs will give insight to the simple knowledge and discernment to the young.

So let the wise listen to these Proverbs and become even wiser.

Let those with understanding receive guidance by exploring the meaning in these Proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and the riddles.

This is going to be an exciting time for each and every one of you this year.

Love it.

Amen and amen and amen.

All right, well Dave, you ready to go into devotional today? I'm ready. We are going to talk about skyscraper faith. Yes. I like this. We're going to go into the book of 1 John, if you'll turn to 1 John, chapter 4, verses 17 through 18. Okay. Amen. Here we go. All right.

We live in God.

Our love grows more perfect. Amen.

So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment,

but we can face him with such confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fear.

If we're afraid,

it is for fear of punishment and it shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. Yeah, that's right. You know, when you're finding yourself as spirit of fear, it is a spirit. That's right. So if you can recognize when fear comes up, you can say, "Uh-uh, I'm not going to receive that because God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and his sound mind." That's right.

When you feel that fear come up, if you feel anything like that, you know that's not sent from God. That is a spirit and you bind that thing. It's so important to take every thought captive, Dave, to not listen to everything or, you know, not everything comes from God. You have to take every thought captive and it helps you. It'll help you through your day when you understand that perfect love casts out all fear. Yes. So love,

you say this with me. Love is the foundation you need as a follower of Christ. That's right. Love is the foundation that you need as a follower of Christ.

And so the deeper the foundation of love, the further you can reach in your faith. That speaks volumes to me right there.

So think of your spiritual life like a skyscraper, Dave.

Skyscrapers are pretty high, right? The limit to how far you grow is to set in your foundation. So the more you understand the love of God and the deeper your life is rooted in His love, the higher your faith will go. So the deeper into God, the more in His word, the more intimacy that you have with Him, the more relationship that you have with the Lord, the deeper your foundation goes.

The higher a skyscraper goes, the deeper the foundation has to be.

So this is when it comes to the things of God. So the more you understand the love of God and the deeper your life is rooted in His love, the higher your faith will go. How many here want skyscraper faith? Amen. I do, I do, Dave. So if you have had a complete understanding of God's love for you, your faith will be limitless just as His love. Oh, there's no, there's no depth, there's no height, you know, the understanding how wide, how deep, how wide God's love is for you. From the east is from the west. You know, His love is so powerful. Yes. That is the love that conquers all, Dave. So let's go ahead and go to Isaiah chapter 28 verse 16. Okay. Let's listen to the message of Isaiah.

He says, "Look,

I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone.

It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Thank you, Jesus. Whoever believes need never be shaken." Amen. I like this old song that would say, "I lay in Zion." Yes. A foundation of stone. Amen.

I lay in Zion. Yes. A sure foundation of stone.

It's a tried stone. A precious cornerstone. A sure foundation. Hallelujah. A sure foundation. A tried stone. A precious cornerstone. He that believe it shall, shall not make it. It's a good one. Amen. Everything comes back to and is measured from that cornerstone. Who is the cornerstone?

Jesus. Jesus is the cornerstone. If something gets off course in your life, listen to this, you can dismantle the defects until what is left lines up with the cornerstone.

Amen.

Anything that doesn't conform to the life and love of Jesus Christ needs to be discarded. Yes. That's right. So you're a builder, Dave. You know how to build. How important is it to have a cornerstone, a plumb line? Yes. How important is it to have that? Your whole structure is based upon it. Yeah.

You're going to have to start square and level or you're going to run into problems.

That's just like your faith right now. If you get sidetracked,

because that's what the devil wants to do to you. He wants to sidetrack you and he wants to start you off course.

But we want to start you on the right course and get you deeply grounded in his word this year.

No matter what comes at you, God will give you the wisdom to withstand anything that the devil might throw at you. Amen. Amen. Anything that doesn't belong needs to be dismantled. That's right. Because it could mess up your whole foundation. It could mess up something. So we've got to make sure. That's why it's so important to be in the word of God because it's really your compass

in life. It keeps you on the right track. Talk about a train going down the tracks and a life in the word and a life in prayer. That's like your two tracks. You have a life in the word and you have a life in prayer and you are the train and you're going down this life and you're in the word and in prayer. But all of a sudden you say, "Oh, I don't have time to be in the word today."

Or "I don't have time to be in prayer today." But if you lose one of those tracks, what happens? You derail. You derail. You have a train wreck. It's so important to keep the balance.

Christ, His word, His written voice is the word of God. A lot of people think, "I can't hear God's voice." Well,

right here.

The Bible is His written voice. It is for us. It helps us. So when you're in the word of God, it's going to speak to you. The scriptures are going to come alive to you. Once you hide it in your heart, the Bible says to hide the word of God in my heart that I might not sin against Him. So once we put the word of God in us, it's going to keep us on the right track. Amen. It's going to help us. You never know that morning. You might be going through something, but guess what? Something might be happening. But maybe what you read that morning is going to rise up in your spirit and then that's going to give you faith for the day. It's going to give you faith for what you've got to go through because we're going to go through storms and trials and tribulations. But we need the word of God as our compass, as our direction, as our focus, Dave. We need that so much.

So stay in the word. This is a powerful time for you. We're going to stay in the word. We're going to be in prayer with you. We're going to come in agreement with you for prayer requests. If you have prayer requests, we're going to come in agreement with you and we're going to pray with you today because we know the word is so powerful and it's true. Amen? That's right.

So go ahead, Dave. Genuine love for Christ comes from an understanding of his love for you. Amen. And brings genuine love for your brothers and your sisters. Yes,

God expects you to show love to him, but he also expects you to show love for your fellow Christians. Amen. He even expects you to show love for your enemies.

How long has it been since you've done something for someone just because you love them?

Not because they ask you to.

Today turn your faith into action. Love on someone with the love of Christ. That's so good. You know, the Bible says to even be good to your enemies, right?

The more that you're in the word of God, you become more like Christ and you start understanding people.

You start understanding things in a different level, in a different way. So this is going to be a good year for you because you're going to grow in him and it's going to be so good, Dave. It's going to be so, so good. Amen. Well, today, if you've not received Jesus Christ as your personal savior, that's a start. That's a beginning to having a good day. Amen. Because when you receive Jesus Christ as your personal savior, it's your choice. God has already sent his son. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

He sent his son because he loved you so much. And Jesus took on the sins of the world.

Every sin, every disease.

It's so powerful. And he was even prophesied in the book of Isaiah. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of my peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed. God can not only heal you physically by infirmity,

sickness, disease, but also he can heal you from your sins.

He forgives you of your sins. All you have to do is repent and ask Christ to come into your life and come into your heart. And what happens when you do that, he not only can forgive you of your sins, the Bible says from the east and from the west he forgives you. He throws your sins into a sea of forgetfulness, Dave. But also what else does Christ do? I mean it's a powerful thing how he throws it into the sea of forgetfulness. But he says in the Bible, he says, "I alone choose to forget your sins." Not only forgives, he forgets your sins. And he says, and he does it for his own sake. He doesn't want to have to remember. And that's kind of like we need to be. A lot of times when we ask for forgiveness, we need to forget.

We don't need to forget what took us there because it separates us from God. The wages of sin is death, right? But the gift of God is eternal life. So sin separates you from God. But when you come back into the fold or you give your life to Christ, you're right there with him. Yes. Amen? It's such a powerful thing. And in the book of Romans, let me get a scripture here for you.

I love this book. Romans chapter 10, verse 9, the Bible says, "If you openly declare Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." It's just that simple.

Let God do the rest. The Holy Spirit is going to come in and he's going to do the rest. But the Bible continues to say, "But for it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved." That's powerful, Dave. That is powerful. Let me say something before Pastor lead you into more scriptures for the reason why you need to receive Jesus Christ into your life.

A lot of you may have opened up your Bibles in the past and they just don't... It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense to you.

Well, the reason it doesn't make sense to you is because you need the Holy Spirit.

And when you ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and make you a new person,

the Word, this is not just a book.

It is alive.

And every time that you go through this Word,

God is going to come alive to you. But the only way he's going to come alive to you is by receiving Jesus Christ into your heart and making a change and allowing him to just download into you the miracles, the signs, the wonders.

This precious Bible is alive.

And if you want to understand it and you want to take this year seriously and really,

the Bible says, "If you seek me, you will find me. If you knock, the door will be open."

So this is how you knock. This is how you seek. It's by taking the step of faith.

And in this last closing moments,

Pastor,

will you show us or walk us through how we're going to receive Jesus Christ? So this book of life comes alive to us. Well, today's a good day to have a good day. Yes, it is. It's a good day to give your heart to Jesus and get in the Word with us. Would you say this prayer with me today? Just bow your heads wherever you may be and just mean it with all your heart. Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you right now in the mighty name of Jesus. I thank you for this day. Father, I recognize that I'm a sinner and that I need a Savior. I repent of every sin I've ever committed. Come into my life. Come into my heart.

Follow me with the power of the Holy Spirit. I believe that you died on the cross for me and for my sins.

I thank you, Lord, for that. And I believe that you rose again and that you're coming back for me very soon. Prepare my life and prepare my heart for your soon return. We ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus.

Amen. So what do you think, Dave? What a wonderful day in Alaska.

I hope you're having a wonderful day no matter where you are in the world.

Let God take control of your life. Praise God. Let him mold you and make you this year. What a wonderful year we're going to have in the Lord together. It's such an honor and a privilege to share this time with you. I hope you join us every single day because we're not going to stop. We're going to keep on going on. We're going to drink at the springs of living water. Amen. Every day. Every day. And God is so good. He's so good and his tangible presence is here right now. And if you need a healing in your body, you just cry out to God because he can heal you. If you need a new heart, he says, "I'll give you a new heart." If you need a new spirit, he'll give you a new spirit. He loves you. Amen. He loves you. It's going to be a good day today, Dave. It is a good day already. It's going to be a good, going to be a good, going to be a good day.

Amen.

We love you. God bless you today. May the Lord's presence be upon you and touch your life. Amen. Amen. Amen. We're going to go play in the snow. Let's do it.

It's kind of cold, but we're going to do it. It is cold. God bless you today. We sure love each and every one of you sincerely.

Praise God. Be blessed.
