Day 3 - A Safe Place
Well hello everyone.
today is a good day to have a good day. Amen. I am Pastor Sherri Morris and we are talking to you all the way from Alaska today and I want to sincerely welcome you once again to our Daily Devotional. Joining me today is my wonderful brother David. Well thank you for sure. He's a wonderful brother and it's an honor today for us to present you with a Daily Devotional as we walk through the Bible, God's Holy Sacred Word. Once again we get to share the Bible with you today. Yes. Amen?(...)
a wonderful time.(...)
you've been with us the last couple days you know that we're going through the Bible. Yes. And I'm giving you, we're just going through the daily Bible. If you're not familiar with the daily Bible it gives you a portion of the Old Testament, a portion of the New Testament, a psalm and a proverb each and every day. And I'm just going to tell you where you're at so if you are just jumping in, jump in(...)
you don't have too much ketchup to do as of right now. But no matter where we're at, get in the Word. Amen. Engage with us and let's just get to know God. Amen. Isn't it wonderful Dave to be able to start your year out, start it outright. That's right. And starting your day outright is good. What a new beginning. It's so good. It's so good. So let's begin. Amen. Okay. I'll let you pray though if you want to pray over our day. Absolutely. Let's do that first. When we start this make sure you have your notepad, make sure you have your Bible out, your coffee or tea and let's get ready to dive into the Word of God. That's right. Amen. That's right. If you don't have that, you guys might have the option to hit record. Yep. And go back because these don't last very long but they're power packed. They are. And we want you to get this Word in your spirit. So heavenly Father, I thank you God today. Once again for another new day Father. For another breath that I can take God to share your Word with the world.(...)
just ask that you. Thank you Lord. That you just open up your Word to us God. Reveal it to our hearts God as we open up these pages. Thank you Lord. And we go over your Word.
bless it today I pray. Yes, Lord. Bless each and every one who is joining us God. Let them fill your presence no matter where they are God I pray. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.(...)
I'm going to guide the Word in my heart God so I won't sin against you in Jesus name. Yes, we've been talking about the secret place. And there's so much to say about this but we touched on it yesterday in Psalms 91.
before we get going I'm trying to jump ahead of myself because I'm so excited about what we're going to go over. You're going to be reading in Genesis chapter 5 starting verse 1 and read through chapter 7 verse 24. Thank you Lord. And in Matthew the New Testament you're in chapter 3 now starting in verse 7 read through chapter 4 all the way to verse 11.
today pastors going to be taking us into Psalms chapter 3 verses 1 through 8. Okay this is good. Now this is this Psalm is written when Absalom David's son raised an army against David and he was attempting to seize the throne of his father. This had to be very hard for David to go through.(...)
read that in 2 Samuel verse 15. I love the Old Testament. I love the story so as you go through reading your Bible it's going to be so great. So David was forced to flee the city but he cried out for help from the holy hill that means Zion and the Lord heard him. When we cry out to God he'll hear you. He hears you the moment that you pray. David went into the wilderness and slept during the crisis and as he did not fear the ten thousands aligned with Absalom breaking the teeth of the ungodly is a metaphor for stopping their mouths and silencing the enemy.
we got to we're going to go into the word now.
The Bible says Lord how my enemies have increased.
rising up against me.(...)
saying of my soul Dave.
salvation for him and God. You've sang the song for thou oh Lord art a shield for me. I glory and the lifter of my head.
but you Lord are a shield around me. My glory and the one who lifts my head. I was crying out to the Lord with my voice and he answered me from his holy mountain.(...)
there's Mount Zion. I lay down and slept. I awoke for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who set themselves against me all around. Arise Lord save me my God for you have struck all my enemies on the cheek. You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.(...)
belongs to the Lord. May your blessing be upon your people. Wow. I love that song you used to sing.
are increased they that trouble me.
they that rise up against me.
they that say of my soul.
no help for him and God.
oh Lord are a shield for me. The glory and the lifter of my head. Amen. But thou oh Lord are a shield for me.
the lifter of my head. Wow. Good song huh? Amen. I love singing the scriptures Dave. I love when we can that's another way to memorize the word of God is by singing songs. Yes. There's so many songs that are scriptures in the Bible you know that we that we sing but it helps them get into our spirit so when you might be going through something you know good bad or whatever you can the spirit of God the word of God can just rise up inside you. Yes.(...)
Amen. That is good. All right. What do you have for us? Pastor we're going to go into Proverbs chapter 1 verses 10 through 19 and I'm going to read Perry Stone's commentary on this. If you're following and you don't have this commentary I highly recommend it.
Stone has dedicated his life. He has. This has been a wonderful thing for Pastor Sherry and I. Love it. We love him. Because it just breaks it down verse by verse and just opens up the Bible to you so. Amen. Luckily I get to share this with you and this commentary is based upon these exact verses 10 through 19.
the root of financial crime. Oh man. For crimes such as stealing and robbing Solomon warned against allowing sinners to entice us into their wicked strategies. So let's go into these verses starting in verse 10. My child if a sinners entice you turn your back on them.
come and join us.
and kill someone.(...)
for fun. Let us ambush the innocent.(...)
us swallow them alive like the grave. Let us swallow them whole like those who go down to the pit of death.
great things we'll get.
our houses with all the stuff we can take.
in your lot with us.
share in the loot.
don't go along with them.
from their paths.(...)
to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder. If a bird sees a trap being set it knows to stay away.
people set ambush for themselves. They're trying to get themselves killed.
fate of all who are greedy for money. It robs them of life. Wow.
isn't it? Yes. The Bible says we ought to store our treasures in heaven. Amen.(...)
are doing. Amen. Right now. That's it. Today you are setting aside time to store your treasures in heaven. Thank God. And we're going to get ready to speak. Yes.
safe place.
a safe place. God is a safe place. You know I feel like wherever I may go when I'm traveling or going overseas I always know that if I'm under the covering of the Lord, if I'm in... Yes. Then wherever I may go I'll be fine. But you need to stay under that covering.
underneath that protection of the Lord and wherever you may go God will be with you. No matter what. Amen. Yeah. So praise the Lord. God is so good. So we're going to go into a wonderful devotion today. And I just pray that it will touch your heart and your life. So it's called a safe place. And we're going to go into Psalm chapter 91 verse 1. Okay.
dwelleth, he that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Amen.(...)
about what that means to dwell somewhere.
guest. You have ownership.
have the right to remain.
what our fellowship to the secret place of the Most High should be.
shadow, the protection of the Almighty,(...)
be safe.(...)
is pictured as a mother bird who protects her young with her wings. These babies are protected from the environment around them and even from the sight of those who would seek to harm them.
where you can dwell with God like this. Praise God, Dave. Many find fleeting closeness to God in their lives.
not his desire.
as a mother bird doesn't want her babies close to her for just a moment,
wants to keep you close. Amen.
to be your refuge and your fortress.
as if you own the most impressive fortress ever and you stood on the outside of it when your enemy attacked.
you any good. It would not be effective. It would not be effective protection.(...)
we treat God just like this.
he's there.
acknowledge his existence, but he's worlds away from having a...we're world away from having our relationship with him.
a close relationship with him to find and dwell in that secret place. You know, Dave, it reminds me of standing outside that fortress, kind of like when I have four children and blessed with a bunch of grandchildren.
loved every single one of them. But each child is different.
it reminds me when a child...you tell them don't touch that or don't go there because you don't want them to get hurt.
don't...staying under that safety even of your parents or under...staying under that shadow of that protection,
us to be protected. But when we come out of that and we want to stand out on our own and we want to touch this or touch that...and I just remember saying don't do that. And then there was this big smile like in a little sneak over here, well what if I do? Just these little sneaky things.(...)
whenever they...like if you say you have a candle out there and it's burning and you say don't touch it, it's hot and it will burn and they'll do this, you know, and I said don't touch it. It's hot, you know, but you're trying to teach them not to do that. Because we as parents and even as the Lord, He gives us instructions. He gives us these patterns of the Word of God. That's why He gives you the Ten Commandments. He gives you things to keep you under the shadow, to keep you safe, to keep you protected.
of times, you know, well rebellious, you know, sometimes we can get rebellious.(...)
know, and how the Bible sucks about the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. But there's that separation that happens when you walk away or you come out from underneath that covering. And you come out from underneath His protection. And then it's okay, well they're on their own for a while. You know, I'll watch after them and I'll try and speak to them and woo them back in. Get back in here. Get back in here. The weather's rough out there. It's going to get tough.(...)
He woos us, Dave. He does. You know, and so I think that, you know, we have a sinful nature, you know, but we're trying to get out of that. Sometimes you just want to zip out of this skin that we're in.
much to it whenever this body, we're a body, soul, and spirit, and this body that we live in will die.
one, thank God. But it's our spirit and our soul that lives on. But we give and we cater so much to the flesh that's going to die. And so we have to recognize those things. We have to love God more than we love anything else. And that's what I feel. So oftentimes I know you, I've listened to you preach a sermon about blaming God for the things that are happening.
often,
most often, or always, it's not God's fault. It's us stepping outside of His protection.
truth. This is the truth. Yeah, it's a truth. And He has, you know, He has like a multitude of angels on assignment ready to work for us to help us. I think why is it in our human nature that we think we know better than God sometimes? I want to do it my way. But God's way is always higher than our ways. We think we know it all. When God Almighty knows everything, the only one that is all knowledge, that knows everything, is God. What does that make us when God is the one that's full of wisdom? He's the only one full of wisdom. So the Bible talks about He is the only one that's full of wisdom.
intelligent being in the universe.(...)
buck heads. We, you know, it's like, what are we thinking? What are we, you know, where are we, what are we doing?(...)
lot of that is we have to humble ourselves before a mighty God and let, and we need to let ourselves know every day that God is all knowing. He is all wisdom.(...)
need to make sure that we understand that we are not.
trust in Him at all times. That's right. We were talking about grandchildren and children.
all want the best for our children.(...)
best for your children is when they obey simply. Oh, amen. When they simply obey and children can have one of two types of responses from parents or from whomever may be watching them. And I just, this is kind of tickles me a little bit because I was spending time with my grandchildren. I have four.
they can be rowdy and they can be rambunctious and they can do all these things and test you.
it's kind of cute to watch these little babies.
say, would you like your papa to have a disciplinary countenance or a mean countenance or do you want me to be loving and kind to you?
course they always want, you know, play time with pop to be loving and nice and kind.
simply said, well, if you would like me to be nice to you and kind to you,
have to do is be obedient. If I ask you to get down, you just get down and say, yes, papa.
will always receive kindness and love. But if you don't want that type of love, then you're going to receive discipline because if you love them, you discipline them. And God who loves us, sometimes we step out of His perfect will and way for our life.(...)
going to receive?
that discipline from Him and you're going to have to live with those count with those consequences. But He loved the Bible says He chases though. Yes. And that's why you know He loves you. Because if He wasn't correct in you.
Humble ourselves before a mighty God. Obedience is better than sacrifice and delayed obedience is disobedience.
That's what I think anyway. So I'm going to go into another scripture. But the secret place is a place in God where we know that God has everything under control. That makes you feel good right there because that makes you have peace. That gives you peace. There's no worry or concern over events around us. And there's all kinds of events that are going on. There's wars, there's rumors of wars, there's all kinds of pestilences, there's plagues,
we've seen storms, all kinds of storms that have been unbelievable.
But we have the peace of God and the calm assurance when we are in His hands, when we're under His shelter. And we can know that all is well. It is well with my soul when we know that. So if we go to Psalm chapter 18 verse 2, the Bible says, "The Lord is my rock and my fortress," I love this, I love this, "and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." Now I want to kind of go do just a little bit of commentary and I know we're running close to the end here. But in chapter 18 verses 2 and 3,
David identifies God as His rock, fortress, deliverer, buckler, horn of salvation, and high tower. All of these objects are used in defensive postures.
Thus David is praising God for being a powerful defense against Saul when he was running and trying to get away from Saul. But there's a scripture here, "I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from mine enemies." There's another song that we sing, "I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be saved." "I will call upon the Lord."
See, what a powerful songwriter, you know? He wrote from his heart, and man, the Lord liveth,
blessed be my rock.
Oh, that's a powerful, powerful scripture. But once you find yourself in a place surrounded by your enemies,
David said,
"I will call upon the Lord.
I will call upon His name because He's my safety. He's my high tower. I will call upon the Lord." And so he knew who his refuge was. He knew what his protection, he knew who his protection was. He knew that high tower that he could run to and be safe and protected and shielded all around. He knew that. Yes. He knew that. I mean, here's a young man that knew, when he was anointed by Samuel, the Holy Spirit, when they poured the oil on him and it went from his head to his toes,
the Bible says the anointing came on him, like he was filled. And you know, he was able to slay lions and bears with his bare hands. He learned to sling that slingshot.
And Dave, I mean, he wasn't afraid because he knew God was in him and he knew who his protector was and he knew who his deliverer was. Amen. Isn't that good? Some of you might be wondering right now, "Well, how do I get into the secret place? How do I get into the safe place?"
And we've talked about this probably before, but if you're just joining us in the secret and the quiet place, Lord, how do I get there? It's making time for God. It's going into your bedroom, shutting the door, and there you will find him on your knees when you make time for God. In the secret,
in the quiet place,
in the stillness you, you are there.
In the secret,
in the quiet hour I wait only for you because I want to know you. Thank you, Lord. Just tell him you want to know him. You want to hear his voice. And if you will make time to dwell in that secret place, you will hear him. He is there for you today to touch your life, to change your life, to give you direction, to give you peace of mind in a troubled world. We're not to fear the events of this world, but we're to go into the secret place and find peace and find his presence. And there is where you'll find it. So if you're wondering where, how do I find God?
You get into his word. You get into that secret place and you seek him. And when you seek him, you will find him. He's there in the secret place. Just go find a place if it's your car, if somewhere in your house where it's quiet. Sometimes you just have to go and you go to that secret place and God is there. He's already there.
Sometimes you don't have to say anything. All you have to do is sit there and wait.
I know you're here, God.
I know you're here. I feel his presence right now, Pastor. Yeah.
So we thank God for his unfailing love. We thank him for the security that's available to those who simply seek you.
And we just ask the Lord to guide us to that secret place once again, to dwell close to being communion with you. And how you do that, you have to have a relationship with him. When you have a relationship with someone, you're close to him. Amen. So the Bible says that Jesus is in the only way, the truth, and the life.
And no one can go to the Father. No one can go to heaven except through him.
And so what you do, it's a simple prayer. You just ask him, "Father, come into my life, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sins. I'm a sinner. I need a Savior. I believe you died on the cross for me. I believe that you rose again and that you're coming back. I believe your word. I believe you. So, Lord, be my shelter. Be my strong tower. Amen. And that's all you have to do is just pray that prayer. David, today's a good day to have a good day. Yes, it is. And we're going to have a good day, and you're going to have a good day. Just trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not into your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path. Be not wise with your own eyes. Fear the Lord. Depart from evil, for it shall be health to your navel and marrow to your bones. Isn't God good? Amen. David, you have such a beautiful voice.
He needs to record a nice CD.
Maybe that will happen sooner than later. I'm just so happy for each and every one of you. If you've prayed that prayer, reach out to us. I'm sure that there'll be something on the screen there that would allow you to do that. We want to minister to you more.
We're so happy that you join the family of God. I'm excited for you today.
God bless. God bless.
