Day 7 - Burn in Me

Well, hello, welcome everyone. Welcome everyone. Today's a good day, isn't it? Amen. It's a good day to have a good day. I'm going to start this devotion together. I am Pastor Sherry Morris from Soldotna, Alaska, and this is my brother David Ansel,

my wonderful brother. He's a mighty man of God. He leads worship for us here at Trinity Christian Center, and he's just wonderful. Preaches for us once in a while, too. That's right.

I tell you, it's an honor for us to present this daily devotional to you as we walk through the Bible in God's Word this year.

It's such a wonderful thing to take you through the Bible, amen, and to meditate upon the Word of God. You're going to learn a lot.

We use Perry Stone's commentary from his Bibles, and it's really good. I like going deep.

You have a powerful devotion for you guys today. I hope you guys are as excited as we are because it is going to be good. Really good. I'm telling you,

this is day seven. If you guys have been with us for day seven, praise God for that. Keep it up. Good work. You're joining us right now.

You've just entered the fire zone.

God is burning in our heart, so He's getting ready to burn a hole into your heart, too, and take you places that you never thought you could go. I'm glad that you've tuned in with us today, how this is working. We're going through a daily Bible.

It's basically, I'm going to give you where you are to read out of the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Pastor and I are going to take you through a Psalms and a Proverbs each and every day for 365 days, so you don't spend a day without the Lord. Now, I'll tell you, you don't go a day without eating. Most of us don't go a day without eating. Some do.

Some can go two or three days.

Sometimes on purpose, sometimes not on purpose. However,

if you go too long,

it's called starving.

Now the Word of God is the same principle.

You can't just take in a little here or there, or you starve to death.

A big reason why we're honored to do this with you is because we don't want you starving. We want you fat in the Lord. We want you soaking in His presence and just becoming all that He has for you to be because He has something so special for you. What it's going to require is exactly what you're tuning in to do with us right now.

Hopefully, we're going to give you a minute here to grab a pen and a paper or get your notepad out or your phone, however you take notes.

Get into the Word with us and let's see what God has in store for us today. It's exciting. Amen. Let's pray, Dave, for our day. Would that be all right? Absolutely. Hallelujah. Heavenly Father, I want to thank you for this day, for this is the day that the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Let as we go into your Word today, may the Word of God be planted in each heart, Lord. May it be planted in good soil and let it grow, Father, as the living water, the very Spirit of God, waters our souls today. May we bear fruit. Lord, I pray in Jesus' name and may the Word of God cause us to walk in obedience, to cause us to walk in the fear of God, cause us to walk in holiness, and cause us to walk in the favor of your mighty Word. We love you, Father, and we thank you for this day in your mighty name. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Okay, well, before we get going here on this daily motion, I'm going to tell everyone where we are at. Here in Genesis chapter 16 starting verse 1 and read through chapter 18 to verse 15,

and then in Matthew chapter 6 verse 1 through 24,

and today Psalms chapter 7 verses 1 through 17,

Pastor Sherry is going to take us through that word.

So this is a Shigaiian of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush the bingermite. And it could be a form of music, how it made him feel like a certain mood of different type of beat to a drum or different sound. So this is what this would be. So he said, "O Lord my God, in you I have taken refuge.

Give me from all those who pursue me and rescue me. O he will tear my soul like a lion,

dragging me away while there is no one to rescue me. O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice in my hands, if I have done evil to my friend, or I have plundered my enemy for no reason, let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Arise Lord in your anger, raise yourself up against me, raise yourself against the rage of my enemies, and stir yourself for me. You have ordered judgment. Let the assembly of the peoples encompass you and return on high over it. The Lord judges the peoples,

then decayed me, Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that's in me. Please let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. For the righteous God puts hearts and minds to the test. My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.

God is a righteous judge and a God who shows indignation every day. If one does not repent, he will sharpen his sword.

He has bent his bow and taken aim.

He has also prepared deadly weapons for himself.

He makes his arrows fiery shafts. Behold, an evil person is pregnant with injustice, and he conceives harm and gives birth to lies. He has dug a pit and hollowed it out and has fallen into a hole which he made.

His harm will return on his own head, and his violence will descend on the top of his own head. I will give thanks to the Lord according to his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

So in the first two,

the heading of the psalm is called Shagayan, of the David, which is sang unto the Lord concerning the words of Kush the bindramite.

The word Shagayan, I think I'm saying it right, comes from Shaga, meaning to wander or a song wandering. This psalm was composed at some point when David was hiding from King Saul in the wilderness because Saul was chasing him. The name Kush, the bindramite, is unknown, but Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin, and his name may be intended to hide Saul's name from the account. Saul chased David like a lion in the wilderness. And also I'm going to go through David's self-prediction that was fulfilled in verses 3-6.

After David committed adultery with Bathsheba, he attempted to cover his sin by having her husband Urias sent to the front line of the battle to be slain.

And David then married Bathsheba, who was pregnant with his child. And you can see that in 2 Samuel 11.

Afterward Nathan the prophet told David a parable of a rich man with many lambs who stole the one single lamb that a poor man owned.

Nathan asked David what punishment the thief should receive.

And David replied that the rich man should die and must restore to the poor man four times. Four times, and you can see that in 2 Samuel 12 verses 5-6. David unknowingly announced his own punishment upon himself.

He was the rich man who took the one lamb, Bathsheba.

God spared David's life, but four of his sons, including Bathsheba's infant, died because of the fact that the sword of the Lord never departed from David's house. And you can read that in 2 Samuel 12 verses 10-18. In the seventh psalm, Saul is mistreating David many years before David becomes king and commits adultery.

However, David says if he rewards a person at peace with him for evil, delivering him

to an enemy without a cause, which David will do with Uriah Bathsheba's husband, then his punishment might be that his enemies would chase him and destroy his honor. This is exactly what occurred when David's friends turned against him and his son attempted a political coup to seize the throne, all a result of David's sin and the treatment of Uriah. These verses would prove to be self-prediction fulfilled later in David's life. Remember that what you speak today, you may be required to live tomorrow. Wow. Yeah, it's pretty powerful. And then just one more. The verses 7 through 11, chapter 7 verses 11-16, these verses reveal a spiritual law and people reap what they sow. You can read that in Galatians chapter 6 verses 7-8, "As was the case with David set a pit for Uriah and eventually fell into a trap himself,"

and bringing God's sword against him. And you can read that once again in 2 Samuel.

Only through repentance, now listen,

only through repentance and humility was David's life spared from God's wrath. And you can read that in 2 Samuel chapter 12 verses 13-14. God loves it when you repent. And when you repent, he forgives. That's right. Amen. Amen. Praise God. Now we're going to go into Proverbs chapter 2 verses 1-5, and I think I'm going to save the commentary for tomorrow so we have a little bit more time on today's daily devotion. So here we go.

My child, listen to what I say and treasure my commands.

Tune your ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding.

Cry out for insight and ask for understanding.

Search for them as you would for silver.

Seek them like hidden treasures.

Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord and you will gain knowledge of God. Amen. What a powerful word that is to me. Wow. Then you will.

Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord and you will gain knowledge of God. Thank you. Boy, he tells you how to do it, doesn't he?

Listen to what he says. Treasure what he says.

Tune your ears into wisdom and concentrate on it. Amen. Then you're going to understand what it means to fear the Lord and you will gain the knowledge of God. Amen. I want the Lord to teach me. Yes. You know, we go through so many things. We do stupid things in life. But I think too, as Dave, is that we have to trust the Lord. And if we would listen to the Lord, if we would use this word, the word of God as our compass in life, it would probably take us away from a lot of harm and a lot of things that we would find ourselves trapped in. And so if you would just listen to the word, obey the word, do the word,

then it would protect you from a lot of hurt in your life. Lots of troubles. A lot of troubles.

And King Solomon wrote a lot of these proverbs for his son. Listen to this. For his kids because he didn't want them to be in trouble.

Some of us learn the hard way and we don't want our children to learn the hard way. Dad said, some kids you raise up and some kids you jerk up.

That's what dad said. Get over here.

Anyway, God is good. So we're going to start out with a devotional called Burn in Me. We sing a song, Burn in Me, Let the Fire of the Holy One Burn in Me. And I love it how Jeremiah says it's like fire shut up in my bones. It's a word of God that he's got so inside of me. Cannot stay silent. Amen. So we're going to go to Job chapter 23. If you have your Bibles, Job chapter 23 verse 10, the Bible says, "But he knows the way that I take.

When he has tried me,

I shall come out as gold." Wow.

That's good, huh? Wow. That's good. It's good. You know, when gold is refined and purified, it's heated up over 2,000 degrees.

And at this high heat, many of the impurities are burned up. That's high heat. Others come to the top where they're skimmed off,

making the pure gold. God himself is pure and holy. Amen. And he desires our lives to be like pure gold. Amen.

In the things of God, purity brings promotion.

Yeah.

But in 2 Timothy chapter 4 verses 22 and 23, "In a wealthy home, some utensils are made of gold and silver and some are made of wooden clay.

The expensive utensils are used for special occasions and the cheap ones are for everyday use.

If you keep yourself pure,

you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean and you will be ready for the master to use you for every good work." I like that. Don't you like that? We sing about the fire of God and we celebrate his burning inside of us, Dave. Yes. We happily quote Jeremiah saying that God's word is like fire shut up in our bones.

But we need to think about that.

Are we ready for the purifying fire?

Are we ready?

Are you ready to have the dross, the trash in your life actually consumed by fire? Are you? Are we?

Man. We sing about it. I know.

Bring forth the gold.

It's funny like when we pray for God to just give me patience, Lord. I be more like you, Lord. And the next thing you know that you are... Being tried.

And you're enduring things but you prayed for it. So here we go. Let's keep going. So those who have been refined will tell you it is worth it. Yes. Oh, they tell you to jump up into that fire with both feet. Yes. Well, tell me David, how do we do that? How do we do that? We do it. We read the written word of God, just like we're doing. We read the written word of God. Yes. In time listening to the Spirit. Let the word that God speaks to your heart bring you to a place of repentance. That is so key, Pastor. So key. We have to repent.

Repentance is the key.

Every day.

Every day. Think about it. God, what have I done that maybe you've grieved your spirit today?

Or grieved mine. Sometimes I'll have an attitude or something. I said, "Man, I don't even like..." I don't even like myself sometimes. I'm thinking, "Lord, forgive me." If I don't like my attitude, I know God really doesn't like my attitude. So sometimes we have to practice the presence of God. We have to practice being like Christ. We have to put those things in the Word.

Just like you said, patience or being kind to someone or the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is not multiple choice, people.

The fruit of the Spirit is the fruit. It's all wrapped up in one. It's like Christ, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control.

Long suffering. We got the long suffering.

But it just makes you think about,

"When you get tried in some of those areas, it's just better sometimes just to not say anything at all."

And then what happens when you do, when you work those things and you practice the presence of God and you practice the fruit of the Spirit and you practice those gifts?

It's like God sees that you're really trying.

And if you mess up, ask God to forgive you and start again.

Don't give up if you made a mistake.

Please don't do that because God is a merciful God and His mercies are fresh in you every morning. So if you've made a mistake,

repent.

And then get up and let's start again and practice the presence of God. If you had a bad temper one day and you say, "I'm not. I'm going to practice being kind. I'm going to practice that. I'm going to have some self-control." That's part of it, self-control.

And once God sees that you're putting it into practice, He will help you. The Holy Spirit will help you. That's right. Yeah. And the Bible says to submit to God, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." And a lot of times the enemy will put all kinds of different ways to try to trip you up or do different things, but you have to recognize the enemy. You have to recognize, you got to know your enemy. So Dave, tell me something. When you played football, I know my husband did for years, and they would show, they would watch films of their opponent, the other team, before they played with them, before they went out to the game. So they had to know the way that the guy that they're going to come against, how he moves, his different ways he does things. We need to know that about the enemy. We need to be like, "Oh, uh-huh.

This is not of God." And so, like a spirit of offense, you know, we've talked about that.

That is one way the enemy likes to come in. And if you find yourself getting offended,

don't.

Don't let that happen. Be so filled with the Holy Spirit that the anointing of God just flows over you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet. Sure some things can hurt, but you know what? Always bring everything to the Lord. Don't just call somebody on the phone. Go to the Lord. Bring everything to the Lord. You know, I think about a duck and how he oils his feathers. We think he's cleaning his feathers, but really he's oiling his feathers so that when he's in the water, the water just runs off of him.

So that's what we need to do. We need to oil ourselves with the presence of the Lord. And so those things that may be calm, they'll just go right off of us because of the Holy Spirit, because of the anointing. The Bible says that love hardly notices when one has done wrong, but when we find ourselves being offended or we find ourselves feeling like, "Ah!" Then we need to know that we need to be more in his presence. We need to be anointed more in his word, anointed more in his presence.

You know? And it's practice, guys. It's practice. I know we're not going to have enough time on this devotion because there's so much more to cover. Yeah. So you have to find the word that God speaks to your heart, bring you to that place of repentance. Yes. Then when the fire has done its job and brought the junk to the surface,

take action and get it out of your life. Come on. Now I'll tell you, as painful as it might feel like it is going to be, once God starts cleaning your house, you're going to find that once this inner house is cleaned, you're going to want the outer house. You're going to want where you're living clean. That's it. And you're going to start recognizing things. Yes. And you're not going to like them anymore. You're not going to like unclean because the Spirit of God is starting to dwell inside of you and that's going to be a reflection on you. And this is when the blessings of God start to come powerfully into your life because God starts to multiply what you take care of. Yes. And if you were used to living in a filthy house and all that junk around, the next thing you know, you just gave your heart to Jesus.

You started to get into his word and he started to burn up that dross inside of you. The next thing you know, you find yourself on a cleaning streak.

That's happening for a reason because God awards what he gives to you if you're faithful with it, he will multiply it. And so the blessings of God keep on giving and giving and giving and he never stops giving.

And so this is why it's so important.

Pray today, God, do this work in me. Burn up this dross. Clean this house, God, that you can abide in it. Yes. And just let the bountiful abundance of God take over in your life and rule and reign with you. And I know we only have a few precious minutes left.

So Pastor,

would you tell us what we need to do to invite Jesus into our life?

You've got a desire to feel clean and you've got to desire God in your life.

And where you've been and where you've been going, it hasn't been working for you. So it might as well give God a try. A lot of times people give the world 100 percent, but they don't give God 100 percent. They want this quick fix. Yes. An instant this, an instant that. But give the Lord 100 percent. Say, "I'm really going to get into the word. I'm really going to pray. I'm really going to try this. God,

you know, I'm going to really try it." So the Bible says, "If I confess with my mouth, declare with my mouth openly that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in my heart." You have to believe in your heart.

You confess your sins. You believe in your heart. He'll come in. Amen. And you'll have a life that's,

that your life will be changed forever. The Bible says he's the way, the truth and the life and no one can go to the Father except by him, through him. So we have to ask Jesus Christ to come into our life in our heart. We have to repent of our sins. Repent and be saved. Amen. That's what we have to do. Amen. Get saved. Get in. Get out. Get right. Make a decision. We've got to make a decision. Life is too short. I just want to compel you with all my heart to give your life to Jesus. He loves you so much. All you have to do is say, "Father, I come to you right now in the mighty name of Jesus.

I recognize that I'm a sinner and that I need a Savior.

I ask you, Lord, to forgive me of my sins. I repent of them, Lord." That means turning from sin, turning from sin and going towards God. I believe that you died on the cross and that you rose again and that you're coming back very soon.

Prepare my life and prepare me, Father, to be ready for your soon return.

I love you with all my heart. Fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus' name. May the word of God, as you read the word, may it just pop off the page and be like living water to your soul. Amen. Amen.

Hallelujah. I love this eternity, eternity. Yes. Where will you spend eternity and what will you do with Jesus?

Praise God. Ask yourself that question on a daily basis. Yes. Amen. Get in there.

Get in there. Praise God.

Ask each and every day for God to increase your intimacy with Him. Amen.

Reach out and He will find you. Amen. Just love you. Amen. So blessed and accomplished. Hallelujah. It's gonna be a good, gonna be a good, gonna be a good day. Amen.

Amen. Hallelujah. God is good.

Make it a good day. Just save yourself. Today's a good day to have a good day and we're gonna make it. We're gonna speak our faith, not our doubt. Amen. Yes. That's what we're gonna do. We're gonna go forth and we're gonna conquer. Amen. In Jesus' name. Amen. In Jesus' name. Amen.

In Jesus' name we go forth. Amen. You know what, Pastor? I just wanna take this last final second and I wanna pray a blessing over you today. Come on, let's do it. Heavenly Father. Thank you Lord. In the mighty name of Jesus. Thank you Father.

We thank you and we praise you God and I ask that you just reach out today to who is listening and watching this God. They need favor. They need a new countenance. They need to fill your tangible presence in their room today. Amen. Father, I ask that you do it. Yes, Lord. Bless them, encourage them, keep them. Know that you are not alone and Jesus loves you. Amen. And we just love you. We're so thankful for you to be with us. We'll see you tomorrow. Can't wait to see you tomorrow. The days are going fast but they can't come fast enough for us to get back in the word. That's right. That's right.

God bless you today. God bless you.
